Your goal for Day 2 is to be able to answer the following questions:
- Who are the native peoples you have encountered at your new home at Jamestown?
- What types of interactions have you had with them?
- How have they contributed to your survival in the New World?
Step 1 - Click Life at Jamestown. Scroll down and read the section Who were the inhabitants of the land around Jamestown and how did they live? This will help you to answer the questions listed above.
Step 2 - Watch the video Werowocomoco: Seat of Power. This video will help you understand the interactions between the English settlers and the native peoples of the land surrounding Jamestown.

Step 3 - Visit National Geographic Magazine again. Skip the intro and select Explore Werowocomoco on the right to begin. Explore an interactive map of the Werowocomoco village. You will learn a lot about the Powhatan Indians, but remember your focus is on the interactions between the English settlers and the Powhatans. Be sure to click Indian Interactions with Settlers at the top of the map.
Step 4 - You will get together in groups of four, assigned by the teacher. Discuss your research findings from Day 1 and 2 with your peers. Together, evaluate and summarize your group's research findings on a new graphic organizer. Once you have completed your group's graphic organizer, brainstorm ideas for your group's board game project that incorporates what you have learned about Jamestown. Click the link to see the project requirements. You have approximately 20 minutes to work with your group today. Use your time wisely!
Step 5 - Using the information you have recorded on your graphic organizer, you will write a second letter to a family member or friend back in England. You must address the questions listed at the top of the page in your letter. Your letter must be at least three paragraphs long. You will have 45 minutes of Writer's Workshop to work. Be creative and remember, you are an English settler living at Jamestown!
